Celtic wedding rings take their laced designs from the patterns of the ancient Celts, European peoples in the areas of England and Ireland in the last few hundred years B.C. At one time the Celtic civilization stretched across most of Europe, but it is from Ireland that most of the Celtic traditions and designs have been gleaned. Celtic wedding rings incorporate the most recognizable of Celtic designs, the interwoven lacework of basic shapes, entwined and overlapping in a distinct pattern.

Celtic jewelry, including Celtic wedding rings, first gained popularity with followers of neo-pagan religions like Wicca, but are now worn by people of many faiths who simply like the look of the designs. Influences of Celtic design can be seen in many cultures, traditions, and religions of today, most notably in Roman Catholicism which has long since adopted the image of the Celtic Cross as one of their own. It seems only natural that the intricate, ornate, and beautiful designs of the Celts would once again find their way into popular culture. Celtic jewelry began appearing in mainstream America again about ten years ago, although it has been around in one form or another for ages before that.

THE CLADDAGH STORY
The romantic story of the mystical and beautiful Claddagh Ring began way back over 300 years ago in the ancient fishing village of Claddagh just outside the walls of the City of Galway on the west coast of Ireland.Legend has it that a local man, Richard Joyce, was captured by pirates and sold into slavery, the property of a rich Turkish goldsmith. In time Joyce became a master craftsman himself and, on earning his freedom, returned to Galway.Back in Ireland a young woman had never stopped waiting faithfully for her true love to return. When Richard returned he presented her with the now famous Royal Claddagh gold ring – a symbol of their enduring love.

They soon married, never to be separated again. there is no sentiment more beautiful than the one Richard carried home with him in his heart and we celebrate in jewelry of all types.

The Claddagh StoryThe heart symbolized the love he yearned to share… the crown his undying loyalty… and the hands, friendship because it is the foundation of love and loyalty and holds the two together.

From that young man’s life we all can take comfort that the goodness in one’s heart can always conquer the evil of others. Evil is no match for the powers of love, loyalty and friendship. Pirates no longer sail the seas around Richard’s island, but every day men leave the shores to fish knowing that they will, if the sea is not high and the currents not too strong, return to the ones who love them.
